Rules
- 2 minutes per/round.
- Split tall and small for all boys and girls divisions.
- How to determine age division: June 30th, is cut off day for age.
For example, 1: if competitor’s born before June 30th, competitor’s turns 10 years old on June 29, 2013, then, he/she will be competing in age group of 10-11. It’s okay for competitor to compete at the age of 9 until the birthday and move up after the birthday but points on rating cannot be transferred.
For example, 2: if competitor’s born after June 30th, competitor’s date of birth is on July 2, 2013, competitor will be competing in age group of 8-9 for the year.
- Before the sparring, center judge will go over basic rules and point calling with side judges.
- No double eliminations are in GMKC Sparring divisions.
- Use bye chart to set up all sparring matches.
- Try not to let same school spar in the first match if possible.
- Light contact and controlled techniques are allowed.
- All techniques are 1 point but kicks to the head is 2 points.
- Lead hand can only score to the head, rear hand can score to head or body.
- Coaching is allowed and promoters will provide a chair for the coach to sit.
- Coach must be seated while coaching and excessive loud yelling is not allowed.
- Any disrespect by coach to any judges, competitors, other coaches can cause disqualification of their student.
- The competitor that scores 7 points first is declared the winner within 2 minutes.
- If no competitor scores 7 points by the end of 2 minutes, the competitor with most points is declared the winner.
- If competitors are tied after the 2 minutes are up, go to sudden death, whoever scores first is declared the winner.
- If any competitor is trying to avoid sparring by excessive running and falling, then he/she will be warned. If the competitor continues to run and fall, then the opponent will be awarded with points after each run or fall. An accumulation of 4 warnings will result in a disqualification. Competitors will receive one official warning prior to points be awarded to the other competitor. For an official warning, the center judge should state that this is an official warning.
- The center judge has the ability to give “soft warnings” that are not considered official warnings.
- The center judge can also call for a disqualification based on a severe or flagrant violation of the rules. A majority of judges must agree to issue a disqualification.
- All rules and interpretations of the rules are at the discretion of the center referee followed by the arbitrator/promotor.
Any arbitration must take place during or directly after the match. .
